Do you have plans for National Prosthodontics Awareness Week yet? Come on, it’s coming right up, April 3-9, 2016!
OK, so Prosthodontics Awareness Week isn’t on the tip of everyone’s consciousness, but maybe it should be. After all, you don’t have your general practitioner do knee surgery, so why would you have just any dentist place dental implants, bridges, and the other items that a prosthodontist specializes in?
At EMA Dental, both Dr. Vincent Mariano and Dr. Thomas Vergo are prosthodontists.
What does a prosthodontist do?
Prosthodontics is one of only nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association, yet their role is a mystery to most people. A prosthodontist has three to four years of advanced residency training in solving oral health issues at an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited institution to learn the surgical skills necessary to place dental implants, use up-to-the-minute digital technologies to diagnose, replace, and restore missing teeth with implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, or dentures.
The analogy to a medical specialist is apropos. Prothodontists such as EMA’s Dr. Mariano and Vergo are dental specialists. To save or replace teeth, they employ specialized procedures or advanced techniques to save the natural tooth; restore broken, chipped, or cracked teeth; or replace a missing tooth.
Wonder if you need a prosthodontist?
In celebration of National Prosthodontics Awareness Week, EMA’s offices in East Longmeadow and Northampton are offering complimentary prosthodontic consultations for the entire month of April. If you have a missing tooth or badly damaged tooth, come in for your free consultation and let’s see how we can help you.
