You know veneers. Sure, they’re the actually wood that overlays lower quality wood underneath in dressers and stuff you buy at IKEA, right?
True, but these aren’t the veneers we’re interested in at EMA Dental. We’re interested in porcelain veneers as a great way to cover up imperfections in your teeth, and show the world a perfect smile.
Let’s face it; everyone has some issues with their teeth. Maybe they’re a little uneven. Maybe their sizes vary. Maybe they’re really stained. Maybe you’ve chipped a couple.
Porcelain veneers are a great option to esthetically improve the appearance of your teeth without the lengthy solutions such as moving teeth, placing implants, and the like.
What are veneers?
As their name implies, porcelain veneers are thin porcelain overlays that are bonded onto the fronts of your teeth effectively covering up any flaws and presenting a perfect smile to the world. Dr. Emirzian is especially experienced with porcelain veneers and other aspects of cosmetic dentistry.
How are they applied?
After Dr. Emirzian examines your teeth to be sure they are healthy enough for veneers (any problems such as decay must be rectified prior to having veneers applied), it’s on to the procedure. First, she shaves off ½ millimeter of tooth enamel from the front of each tooth that will receive a veneer. This seems to be an odd way to make your teeth look better, but this has a twofold purpose. It makes room for the veneer, and it makes a great bonding surface on the tooth for the veneer to adhere to. Now, we need to take impressions of your teeth with the reduced enamel layer. We send these impressions off to the dental lab to create your custom veneers. While we’re waiting for their fabrication, Dr. Emirzian will place temporary veneers on your teeth.
When your veneers are finished, you return to our office. First, Dr. Emirzian checks the fit and color match of the veneers. Once she is satisfied, your teeth are cleaned and polished. Dr. Emirzian also etches each tooth to receive a veneer; this creates a better bonding surface. Then the veneers are cemented onto your teeth. She removes any stray cement and shaves off any protruding areas.
You’ll leave our offices with a beautiful smile that only required a couple visits to our offices. That’s the beauty of porcelain veneers. Interested? Call our Longmeadow or Northhampton offices and let’s talk about your options.
